By popular vote, Deuce was a 2011 calendar dog!I have attached the photo that was submitted to the contest back in March. 18 April 2010 |
Deuce will be three on the 19th. He has really settled into our ways and he has us both figured out. He gets a long walk (40-45 minute) every morning. I call him my treadmill since I don't need one with him. You know he never says no to the walk.
Every evening we try to give him a good run. He is passionate about catching and returning the ball. It is probably his job. A few rides on the golf cart makes it a great day for him. He really thinks that he is a lap dog. We re really enjoying him!

| Deuce is doing very well and we all are adjusting.
I cannot believe how bright this dog is! He is doing many things that took our other dog
much longer to do. He chases the ball and returns it. He sits when he gets a treat.
However, Deuce does not miss a beat. In the past week, we have made our home "puppy proof" -- |
--thank goodness for gates! He certainly keeps us on our toes, and other times he is so darling.
He plays with his many toys although his favorite toys are a water bottle, a gallon milk jug and a
plastic hanger!
Deuce is growing a lot. He certainly eats everything that he is given. We are currently feeding him
in the morning, afternoon and evening.

| He is sleeping in his crate every night, and house training is going very well. He has been able to "hold it" through the night, and we are down to maybe one accident a day. Yesterday we batted a thousand--no accidents. Of course we are very diligent about talking him out every hour and using lots "good boys" when he is outside. The other evening I made the mistake of saying "good boy" to him when we were in the house and I initiated the "outdoor response" from Deuce. He has figured it out. I have also figured it out, and I do not say "good boy" in the house any more! Deuce is learning the lay of the land here. He is comfortable in the golf cart and the car, and he really enjoys all of our walks on the golf course. Everyone that he encounters marvels at his beauty. He is such a pretty boy! Our family and friends from afar really enjoyed seeing him (and us) on your web site. I am attaching a few pictures of Deuce in his element. |
Below, DEUCE at six and seven months -- |
| I have attached some recent pictures of Deuce. As you can
tell he is turning into a beautiful dog.
We have been back in Illinois since the end of April, and Deuce has adjusted to his new
home here. He is an extremely happy dog and he loves playing with his toys and he is
always full of enthusiasm. When we are gone he is happy to stay in the laundry room and
at night he goes right into his crate in our bedroom. We have an "off leash" dog park run
by the forest preserves in our area and Deuce is well known at the park. He loves to play
with the other dogs -- no matter what size -- and he loves going in the ponds and streams
in the park. Many owners toss balls in the water for their dogs to retrieve, but Deuce is not
really interested in retrieving--he only wants to herd them. He still thinks that he can catch
birds and he tries very hard to run after them. (Maybe some day he will be successful.
I hope not!) Everyone we encounter marvels at his beauty--even when he is muddy and wet!
We have just completed "clicker training" at a local dog training establishment. It was somewhat successful for Deuce figured it out fairly quickly and used the cllicker to his advantage. We are going to continue training with a well respected trainer recommended by our vet. Apparently this trainer specializes in Aussies and Borders. We are optimistic that this will be more successful. The problem is that he is such a happy dog, and he wants to jump on everyone! Pam, July 1, 2009 |

Hopefully this is the first of many holiday cards I will send you with Deuce's picture! We are very thankful that we have him. He has been a real joy and we do enjoy him very much. It has been interesting watching him grow and mature! |
