During March, we took Coda on her first trip to the mountains (Idyllwild). There wasn’t much snow in the town, but Coda found every pile of slush and ice on the side of the road and immediately climbed to the top. She loves the sound of ice crunching under her feet. We took her a bit higher up and found some snow, but she was more interested in running around under the trees and picking up rocks. Yes, she still loves rocks of all sizes. True to form, she also ran into the creek and then into the dirt so that she could spread mud everywhere. Both Coda and my car needed a bath.

Because we are in San Diego, only two weeks after being in the snow, Coda got her first trip to dog beach (Del Mar). There were lots of sandy puddles for her to dig into and lots of other dogs to chase. We have since been back to the beach several times, and, as you can see from the photos, she finally decided to go into the surf (Bolsa Chica). She then proceeded to roll around in the sand to dry herself off. Yes, both she and my car got another bath.

The last picture was taken on my stairs, one of her favorite places to sit. She also likes to take her ball to the top and roll it down so she can play fetch by herself.

I have been surprised by the number of places I have found that allow dogs; we were actually wandering around Bloomingdales last Saturday. Coda behaves very well when I take her into stores to walk around, she is very curious and looks at everything as if she really is “shopping”. And, so far, no accidents in any stores (even though the man in the Persian rug store said I could bring her in, I thought that might be pushing my luck too far).

She also sits under my chair reasonably well if I take her to lunch somewhere with an outdoor patio. We graduated from puppy class two weeks ago and immediately started basic obedience the same day. She’s the youngest dog in the class and clearly one of the better behaved ones. She does every command perfectly on cue so long as I have the dried chicken pieces in my pocket. Linda April 18, 2009

The picture indoors was taken at my mother’s house the first week she was here, the sheep toy looks a lot more ragged now. The next one is a bit blurry, but I like this one because it was the day she discovered that the koi moved. I have taken many similar shots since then (she “helps” me feed the koi every morning).

The one on the grass was taken about two weeks ago just after she earned her first bath. We’ve had a lot of rain the last few weeks and Coda really loves mud puddles. She likes to rear up like a horse and splash the mud everywhere. Or dig in it so that she’s throwing it on anyone who is behind her. The one sitting on my patio was taken this morning – I wanted to send a current photo.

As you can see from the more recent pictures, she now sits on command. We started puppy classes last week and she’s the know-it-all sitting in the front row who already knows how to do everything. Everywhere I take her, she’s very friendly and people comment on her pretty face. Linda 2/27/09
